Welcome to C-4!

C-4 During the day your student will rotate to each 5^th grade teacher.  Each group will rotate with the fellow students from our homeroom. There are 4, 5^th  grade teachers this year at Hammond. Mrs. Scifres will be teaching Math and I will be teaching Reading.  We have a new 5^th grade teacher here at Hammond, Miss Guile, who will be teaching Writing. Mr. Weaver will be teaching his homeroom students Science in the afternoon. The other teachers will also teach their homeroom Science and Social Studies in the afternoons.

 

Information/Communication Your student will be in charge of a very important scheduling tool, the student planner.  All assignments, objectives and activities will be recorded in the planner during each class.  Students are to communicate with you through their planners.  Every Monday we will check the planner for a parent signature and any notes from home.  Every month there will be a 5^th grade flyer sent home with information about the month to come, calendar updates, and curriculum information.

 

Homework: The homework expectations in 5^th grade are considerably greater than in 4^th grade. Homework is assigned on Friday and is due on or before the following Thursday. There will be one math minute sheet for the students to complete per week as well as the assigned homework sheet. Students will also read for at least 20 minutes 3 nights a week. Please initial on their homework sheet the days they read. Study hall will be available during recess for any uncompleted assignments or homework. Students may be sent to detention at recess for not following school rules.

 

Due Dates for Classroom Assignments: Classroom assignments are generally due the next school day after they are assigned. Class time is always given to complete assignments. Students will need to finish an assignment at home if it is not completed during the work time given in class. This is in addition to the normal assigned homework.

 

Volunteers/Classroom Helpers: We love parent help.  We are actively looking for volunteers on Fridays to help with popcorn sales and occasional field trips and activities.  If you are interested in volunteering please contact your teacher as soon as possible.
